Nursery Mobile

Two posts in one day?! Yep, I can't do much else because the sawing and drilling are too loud for me to hear the t.v.!

Here's how I made a super simple mobile for the little guy's nursery.

embroidery hoop
craft paint
fishing line
scrapbooking paper
1 1/2" and 2" hole punch (or you can trace circles and cut them out, but that sounded like waaaay too much work)
glue gun

Here are some pictures during the process.

I needed two coats of paint to cover the wood.

My assortment of scrapbooking paper.

The cut out circles.

I just noticed that I didn't take a photo of actually putting together the circles, but it's pretty self explanatory. Take two circles of the same size and glue one to the ribbon and then glue another one directly over it. Easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy.
I matched the paper colors to the Boodalee fabric that I bought to use in the nursery. You may remember it from the mood board.

Then I glued all of the strands to the hoop. Right now it's hanging by fishing line. You could also use ribbon to hang it up. (I ran out!)

Please forgive my amateur photography skills. I still don't know how to use my new camera!

Kitchen Update

This will be the first of many updates I'm sure. Since I'm on Christmas break from teaching, I actually have time to post!

Here's the status of the kitchen floor:
Oh, hello basement.

But let's back up for a moment shall we? Here's the floor we found under the linoleum.

I know, I know, you're wondering why we tore up all that awesomeness. We thought it was going to be all black since that's what we could see from a portion of it under the fridge. But low and behold, it's got swirls, funky dollar sign looking things, not to mention the red and black border. I know retro is back so if you want it you can come pick it up from the dumpster in our backyard.

Up it comes:

Dave's putting the new subfloor in while I speak,er, type. More to come later, the hardwood's going in tomorrow, possibly.

The kitchen renovation has officially started!! Dave started ripping out the old cabinets yesterday and has already made a lot of progress!

Midway through:

And you are probably wondering where all the stuff that was in the kitchen went, well welcome to our studio apartment.

I've been washing dishes in the bathroom sink and it's kinda nice walking across the room to grab a drink or make a cup of coffee. I'm sure it will get old real quick.

What have I been doing during all of this? Making a mobile for the nursery. Photos to come!

Thanks Santa!

I was very excited and surprised that Santa brought me a digital SLR camera for Christmas! I had been hinting for awhile that a nice camera would be great to have when the baby comes, but never thought I'd actually get one! What can I say, I'm spoiled :).
I got the Canon EOS Rebel T2i, whatever all that means. All I know is that it takes great photos without even trying, though I have a lot to learn. Maybe I'll take a class on how to use it!
Dave had more fun with the camera than I did yesterday. Here are some highlights from the day.

And the best photos of all,
Cranberry Stilton Before:

And after:

You can see where that photo is headed. Dave had no idea that he was taking the photo and by the time he put the camera down it was too late. I think Sammy was just doing everyone a favor, no one else would touch the stinky stilton anyway.

Niki was here

This is where we found the lovely photo of Niki, in our third bedroom also known as the attic.

Donny used to live in the upstairs bedroom and I think he had the hots for Niki's feathered hair. Here's what she has to say.

I wonder what happened at Zven's birthday?? We may never know, but I think Donny was one sly devil.
