Stairs Complete

Yes, they are finally done. And what a world of difference it makes in the basement. Here's some before and after pictures.

Before, aaand I just realized that I didn't ever take a before picture of the old stairs before they were ripped down. What kind of blogger am I??

Here's the best I can do on the " before" photos:

This was taken before we moved in. You can kinda see what they looked like. To my disappointment, they did not leave the awesome wooden chair.

The only photo I have of the stairs close up. They were covered in vinyl, nice.

And they're gone

Dave's already started re-doing the trim on that side of the basement.

And there you have it. Mission complete. Now on to project 1,402.

Sunday Funday

Well, not really. I guess if you like doing things like building stairs and testing out paint samples, then today would be a thriller. I picked up a few paint sample jars to try some colors out for the kitchen. What I learned is that the colors in the store, under the god-awful fluorescent lights do not look the same once you get them home. Although, there is much to be said for the lighting in our kitchen.

Dave primed the wall to get ready for testing.

And here's my handy work. Talented aren't I?

So the verdict is...none of them are exactly right. The one on the right is too light and the one on the left is waaaay to dark for a tiny kitchen. The one in the middle is the closest to what I am looking for. I labeled them so I would remember which is which.

So aqua smoke isn't so bad. I was looking for a light aqua color, but I think that maybe the colors are a little to green. I have a whole wall to try out more colors so I'm sure I'll head back out to the paint store for more.

While I've been upstairs, Dave's been in the basement working on the stairs. One of the many obscenities that have come from his mouth occurred after this happened:

The top to the ceiling paint was definitely NOT on when he went to shake it up.

Well, now the rug is a nice drop cloth. It was going to come up anyways, just not, uh, now. Besides the mishaps, this is the progress he's made on the stairs. Walls and ceiling painted heading down.

And they're now stained a dark walnut.
Dave's working on putting in the trim as we speak.

By the end of the day the railing and balusters will be in which will all be white. Once the stairs are completely done, we can actually start on the kitchen.

I heart farmer's Markets

While Dave has been busy hanging sheetrock and staining the basement stairs, I've been going to some farmer's markets in the area. It makes me feel better to buy from local farmers than to go to the grocery store and buy a pepper that was shipped here from 500 miles away. Just a bit to lessen my carbon foot print.

Here's some of the fresh veggies I bought this week. I made some some pico de gallo to go with the swordfish tacos I made.

Here they are

Topped with the goodies from the farmer's market.

They were pretty tasty. I need to find some new summery recipes before the summer is gone!

Here's my buy from the SOWA market today.

They add a little color to our dining table. Now only if I knew how to garden.

Catalog Living

I just love this blog. I scroll through and laugh out loud. Alone.

Today's post below:

Be prepared…

Elaine got the feeling that Gary planned to stay in the bathroom for a long time.

Stair progress

Goodbye door in the kitchen taking up precious cabinet real estate.

And we have walls...

And the start of a closet.

View from the laundry room.

Next on the list, demo the kitchen. We will be those people spending an obscene amount of money during the tax free weekend. When you have to buy a dishwasher, oven, cook-top, microwave and cabinets, it will certainly be worth it. Yay for shopping with thousands of other crazy people.

I've got nothing

Since I have been lagging on my blogging job, thought I'd at least post something. Did you know Dill can have flowers? Neither did I. It adds a little color to the herbs on our deck.

That's all folks. Updates on the stairs soon.
